The Varsity KC gang was a man short this week as our elder statesman, Thom Hanrahan, hit the disabled list for a week. Oh, and Cody Thorn — the guy literally phoned it in this week. He joined the show from the road as he was headed to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl. This week, we’re catching you up on holiday tournaments, especially the William Jewell Holiday Classic, and getting you ready for the fast and furious second half of the winter sports season.
The Varsity Kansas City Panel hits a few highlights from the previous week before delving into a conversation on the young wrestling season.

It’s Thanksgiving week and the Varsity Kansas City panel is thankful for the opportunity to cover local high sports throughout the metro area. In addition to previewing the MSHSAA State playoff games for Smithville and Fort Osage, the gang takes a little time to review some of the great fall storylines and look ahead to possible stories coming from the winter season.

In fact, we’re entering week 2 of the 2018 high school football playoffs and the Varsity Kansas City panel couldn’t be happier. In addition to getting you ready for this week’s slate of games, the gang takes a little time to highlight a few other teams from different sports who are enjoying varying levels of success this season.

After a come-from-behind win on Wednesday, the Liberty Blue Jays advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Class 4 Missouri State Championships and will host Blue Springs South at 1 p.m. Saturday in Liberty.
